Rommel S. Forbes is a former seafarer of a cargo vessel from 2015 to 2020. Due to the pandemic, he decided to return to the Philippines in 2020. His business, EM-AR Handicrafts, was originally owned by his parents and was operating even after his first embarkation. When he decided to stay for good in the country, the business was passed on to him to help cover the finances of his family. But the responsibility, although hard, he enjoys managing because this is his passion.

The products of EM-AR Handicraft are made from rich raw materials of buri and rattan. These products are one of the main materials of Quezon province. The finished products of EM-AR Handicrafts are themed with traditional elements with a modern twist. With the success of his business, through innovation, uniqueness, and quality craftsmanship, EM-AR Handicrafts was recognized by the LGU of Tayabas City and awarded as the “Product of the Year” in 2024. The well-crafted products of EM-AR Handicrafts also support the local community in the area, such as local weavers, artisans, and craftsmen, in terms of providing livelihood.

To better improve and compete in a larger market, the EM-AR Handicrafts also participated in different local and national trade fairs. Recently, the owner had a chance to participate in PROPAK Asia 2025, wherein he experienced collaborating with different industry leaders, innovators, and professionals from across the globe. It provided them with an excellent opportunity to gain valuable knowledge about the latest trends, technologies, and sustainable practices in international processing and packaging.
