Desmond Farm
How this OFW couple built a cacao farm
3
minute read

In 2014, the founders of Desmond Farm were former OFWs, Ms. Kaiselle worked as a Document Control Staff at the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar, and her husband, OFW Elmer Atun Jr. worked as a Civil Engineer/Mechanical Technician in Saudi Arabia for almost eight (8) years. Like many OFWs, they wanted a sustainable way to return home for good and decided to return to the Philippines in 2019.

With their savings, they acquired a small raw land in Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija. At first, it wasn't a grand resort; it was a focused attempt to plant Cacao and practice organic farming. Unlike many small family farms, they structured themselves as Desmond Farms and Partners Inc. specifically to allow other OFWs to participate. They invited other OFWs to become shareholders and investors, creating a community-funded agricultural powerhouse as they didn't just sell chocolate; they sold the idea of ownership.
